What Is Luma Dream Machine?

Luma Dream Machine is an AI video generator from Luma. You type a prompt or upload an image, and Luma makes a short video clip. Luma's current website calls the workspace Luma and Luma Agents. It includes Luma's own Ray3.2 model and other models, such as Veo 3.1 and Kling 3.0. You can also change footage you already have, add voiceover and music, and export 1080p video.

Who Should Use Luma Dream Machine?

Luma is useful for marketers, agencies, social media managers and product teams that need short video clips without a film shoot. It also helps people who want to try several AI video models in one place. Every generation uses credits, so heavy users should check the monthly credit amount before they choose a plan.

How Does Luma Dream Machine Work?

  1. Write a prompt that describes the scene, subject, motion and mood.
  2. Add a reference if you want one. This can be an image, a storyboard, brand guidelines, a clip or a character reference.
  3. Generate the video. Luma can pick the model for you, or you can choose one. Luma says most generations finish in under a minute.
  4. Refine the result with a follow-up prompt, then export it in 1080p.

Luma Dream Machine Pricing and Plans

The screenshot shows three Individual plans: Plus at $30, Pro at $90 and Ultra at $300. These are monthly prices with the Monthly option selected. The screenshot says yearly billing saves up to 20%, but it does not show yearly prices. Plus includes 10,000 credits, commercial use and edit access for guest collaborators. Pro has 40,000 credits, and Ultra has 150,000. Credits are units used to pay for each generation. Luma says they reset each billing cycle and do not carry over. Luma lists Team and Enterprise plans as "Contact us" pricing, but the screenshot does not show them.

Is Luma Dream Machine Free?

Luma says it is free to try, and its site has "Try for free" buttons. Its video generator page also mentions free trial credits. However, the pricing page lists no Free plan, and Plus at $30 a month is the first plan shown. Luma's official pages do not say how many trial credits you get or whether trial videos have a watermark. Check the sign-up screen before you plan any work around free access.

Luma Dream Machine Key Features

Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video

Users can start with a prompt or upload a photo, illustration or product shot. Ray3.2 then makes a clip. A single Ray3.2 generation runs 5 or 10 seconds, and Luma says it does not make audio on its own.

Multiple Models in One Workspace

Luma offers its own Ray3.2 model. It also offers Seedance 2.5, Seedance 2.0, MiniMax H3, Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Kling Omni. You can switch models for each generation. Credit costs differ by model, length and resolution.

Modify Video

Modify Video changes footage you already have. Users can swap the environment, wardrobe or product, relight the scene or change the style. Luma says the output matches the length of your source clip, up to 20 seconds depending on frame rate.

Luma Agents

Luma Agents is a creative workspace where you describe what you want in plain words. The Luma Agent can pick models and make variations. Brainstorm Mode creates no media and helps you plan. Create Mode generates images, video, audio and text.

HDR and EXR Export

Luma supports native 1080p video and 16-bit HDR, which holds a wider range of light and dark. You can export MP4 files for web and social, or 16-bit EXR frames for grading and compositing. Luma can also upscale video to 4K.

Audio and Lip Sync

Users can make voiceover, music and sound effects with ElevenLabs inside the workspace. Lip sync works by pairing a video with an audio track. Seedance 2.5 can also make video with audio.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Offers Luma's own Ray3.2 model and third-party models like Veo 3.1 and Kling 3.0 in one workspace.
  • The Plus plan includes commercial use, according to the pricing screenshot.
  • Luma says credits used for failed generations go back to your account.
  • Includes tools beyond text-to-video, such as Modify Video, lip sync, audio and upscaling.

Cons

  • The pricing page lists no Free plan, and free trial details are not documented on official pages.
  • Credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. At the listed Ray3.2 rate, a five-second 1080p clip costs 400 credits, so Plus's 10,000 credits cover about 25 such clips with no retries.
  • A single Ray3.2 generation is only 5 or 10 seconds. Longer videos need Extend or Scenes.
  • Ray3.2 text-to-video and image-to-video do not make audio on their own, so voiceover and music are a separate step.
