What Is Ideogram?
Ideogram is an AI tool that makes images from text. You type a prompt, which is a short description, pick a model or leave it on Auto, and click Generate. You can add reference images, put wanted words in quotes and edit results in the Studio editor. Ideogram also offers models from other companies and an API for developers.
Who Should Use Ideogram?
Ideogram is useful for designers, marketers, small business owners and creators who make posters, banners, logos, stickers and product images. Teams can share credits on the Team plan. Developers can use the API. People who want private images or more credits will need a paid plan, because free images are public.
How Does Ideogram Work?
- Sign in and type your prompt in the box on the home page, or open the Image app.
- Choose a model, or leave it on Auto, and adjust settings such as aspect ratio and number of images.
- Add reference images if you want to guide the result.
- Click Generate and find your results in the Assets feed.
- Open an image to edit it, upscale it, remove the background or download it.

Is Ideogram Free?
Yes. Ideogram's help pages list a Free plan for $0. Accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft get 30 credits each week. Email-and-password accounts get no free credits. All Free plan images are public, and free accounts cannot use the slower queue. The screenshot does not show the Free plan.
Ideogram Key Features
Text to Image
Users type a prompt in the Image app and click Generate. Auto picks a model, or users can choose Ideogram 4.5, 4.0 or 3.0. Magic Prompt can expand a short prompt, and Describe can turn an image into a prompt. Text for the image goes in quotes.
Studio Editor
Studio is Ideogram's image editor. It uses image and text layers for inpainting, which edits part of an image, plus Extend, background changes and text. Remove background and Crop work on any plan. Extend, Remix, Select area and Upscale need a paid plan.
Reference Images and Characters
Ideogram 4.5 accepts up to five reference images in the Image app. Users add clear photos of a character and refer to them with @ tags in new prompts. The docs say this helps keep a character consistent. Reference images always use credits.
Transparent Background Models
Ideogram 4.0 Transparent and 3.0 Transparent make images with no background. They suit stickers, icons, clip art and print-on-demand designs. Ideogram 4.0 Transparent can output up to 8K. Ideogram 3.0 also offers style presets, negative prompts and color palettes.
Private and Team Tools
On paid plans, new images stay unpublished until the user publishes them to the community. The Team plan adds central billing and admin tools. Enterprise lists private custom models trained on a company's visual data and volume discounts on the API, billed separately.
Should You Use Ideogram?
Ideogram fits people who want to make posters, logos, stickers and product images, and who want a Free plan to test first. Paid plans add private generation, more credits and Studio tools such as Extend and Upscale. Free credits are small, and some actions use credits even on paid plans. This overview is based on publicly available product information and is not a hands-on review.

Can I use Ideogram images for business?
Ideogram's terms say it does not restrict using outputs, including for business. It also says users are responsible for third-party rights and may need permissions. Read the Terms of Service before you sell designs such as stickers or print-on-demand items.
