What Is Grok?
Grok is an AI assistant built by SpaceXSI. People use it on grok.com, in iOS and Android apps, and in the Grok tab on X to chat, write code, make images and videos, and get answers from the web and X. Paid plans add Grok Bot, an AI teammate that works in the cloud, and bundle in Cursor, a coding tool.
Who Should Use Grok?
Grok is useful for people who want one AI tool for chat, coding and media creation, and for heavy X users who want Grok and X perks in one bill. Free users can try it first. Developers and daily agent users should check how fast the shared weekly usage pool runs out.
How Does Grok Work?
- Go to grok.com or open the Grok app for iOS or Android, and sign in.
- Type a prompt, or tap the + icon to upload files such as PDFs, spreadsheets or images.
- Ask for a chat answer, an image or video, or help with code.
- Review the result and ask follow-up questions.
- Open Settings, then Usage, to see how much of your weekly usage is left.

Is Grok Free?

Grok Key Features
Chat and File Analysis
Grok answers questions, writes and edits text, and helps with code. Grok's site says it can use real-time information from the web and X. Users can also upload files, including PDFs, spreadsheets, images, audio and video, with up to 150 MB per file for most types.
Grok Imagine
Grok Imagine makes images and videos from text prompts. The screenshot lists AI images and videos on Premium, and 1080p, 15-second videos on Super. Grok adds a watermark to generated images and videos, and the settings have no option to remove it.
Grok Build and Cursor
Grok Build is a coding tool for writing and reviewing code. Plus includes Build and Cursor, a code editor with AI agents. Premium adds code hosting, AI code reviews, and cloud agents and automations. Third-party models in Cursor are billed separately.
Grok Bot
Grok Bot gives users AI teammates that work on a persistent cloud computer. Grok's docs list messaging, approvals, connectors and routines. Grok Bot starts on the Premium plan, and Plus does not include it. Its usage comes from the same shared weekly pool.
Shared Weekly Usage Pool
Paid plans share one weekly usage pool across Grok and Cursor. Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build all draw from it. Different tasks cost different amounts, so a short chat uses little and a long video uses more. Users can check usage in Settings, then Usage.
Voice and X Perks
Grok Voice lets users talk to Grok, and Plus and higher plans list it. Companions are available only on the iOS app. Some Grok features are tied to X: Plus and higher add a checkmark, fewer ads and creator tools once a personal X account is connected.
Should You Use Grok?
Grok suits people who want chat, media tools and coding help in one subscription, with a free plan to try first. Video and Grok Bot start at Premium, and heavy use may hit the shared weekly limit.
